A backup is only as safe as the place it is stored. This guide shows you how to connect off-site storage destinations to BackupEase so your archives live somewhere separate from your server, and how the Pro version lets you send a single backup to several destinations at once.

Available destinations

BackupEase groups destinations by plan:

Local · FreeStored on your own server. Fast, but not disaster-safe on its own.
Google Drive · FreeOff-site cloud storage connected with a secure Google sign-in.
Dropbox · ProOff-site cloud storage using your Dropbox account.
OneDrive · ProOff-site cloud storage using Microsoft OneDrive.
FTP · ProSend archives to any FTP server you control.
SFTP · ProEncrypted transfer to an SSH/SFTP server.
Your credentials are encrypted

OAuth tokens, client secrets, and passwords for your destinations are stored using AES-256 encryption, so connection details are never kept in plain text in your database.

Connect Google Drive (free)

  1. Open the Storage settings In the BackupEase dashboard, go to the Storage tab and click Add destination.
  2. Choose Google Drive Select Google Drive from the list of destination types.
  3. Authorize access Click Connect and sign in to your Google account, then approve the requested permission so BackupEase can upload files.
  4. Pick a folder Choose or name the Drive folder where backups should be stored.
  5. Save Save the destination. It is now available to select for manual backups and schedules.

Connect Dropbox or OneDrive (Pro)

Dropbox and OneDrive follow the same pattern as Google Drive:

  1. Add the destination In Storage, click Add destination and choose Dropbox or OneDrive.
  2. Sign in and approve Authorize BackupEase through the provider's secure sign-in screen.
  3. Set the folder and save Choose the target folder and save the destination.

Connect FTP or SFTP (Pro)

For your own server, use FTP or the encrypted SFTP option:

  1. Add an FTP or SFTP destination In Storage, click Add destination and choose FTP or SFTP.
  2. Enter the connection details Provide the host, port, username, and password (or SSH key for SFTP), plus the remote path where archives should be uploaded.
  3. Test the connection Use Test connection to confirm the details are correct before saving.
  4. Save Save the destination once the test passes.

Upload to several destinations at once (Pro)

With Pro, a single backup can be uploaded to multiple destinations in the same run. Select every destination you want on a manual backup or a schedule, and BackupEase sends the finished archive to each of them, giving you redundant copies without running the backup more than once.

Keep your destination access secure

Anyone with access to a connected account or FTP server can read your backups, which contain your entire site and database. Use strong, unique credentials, and remove a destination in BackupEase if you ever revoke its access.
