Hooks reference

“Buy one, get one” is one of the highest-converting offers in ecommerce: it lifts units per order without feeling like a straight price cut. Here is how to set up a real BOGO deal in WooCommerce with Discount Master, applied automatically at the cart.

What you'll have when you finish

An automatic BOGO offer: when a customer buys a qualifying item, an additional item is discounted, at a percentage you choose, or fully free with Pro, with the saving shown in the cart and order.

  • Prerequisites: WooCommerce and Discount Master installed and active. The 100%-free variant uses Discount Master Pro.
  • You'll need access to: a WordPress admin account.
  • Time: about 5 minutes.
The walkthrough
  1. Create the BOGO rule
  2. Configure the BOGO action
  3. Target the right products
  4. Show the deal and test

1. Create the BOGO rule

Add a discount: Discount Master › Discounts › Add New, and on the General tab name it something like Summer BOGO — T-Shirts.
Activate it: turn on the Activate toggle, and optionally set Start and End dates for a limited-time deal.

2. Configure the BOGO action

Add the action: on the Actions tab, click Add Action and choose the BOGO (Buy X, Get 1) type.
Set the deal: choose how many items must be bought before the extra one is discounted, and the discount on that extra item, for example 50%. With Discount Master Pro, the BOGO Free action makes the extra item 100% free.
Percentage now, fully free with Pro The free plugin covers percentage-based BOGO. If you want a true “get one free” (100% off the extra unit), that is the Pro BOGO Free action. See Discount Actions.

3. Target the right products

Pick the products: select which products qualify for the BOGO in the action’s product field, or use a Conditions › Product Categories row to run the deal across a whole category.
Keep it focused BOGO works best on a defined set of products (a category or collection) rather than the entire store. It reads as a special offer and protects your margins on everything else.

4. Show the deal and test

Display: on the Display tab, keep Show discount action as cart item meta on so the customer sees the BOGO saving on the discounted line.
Test it: add the qualifying quantity to the cart and confirm the extra item is discounted automatically, with the saving shown.

Where to go from here

Your BOGO deal now runs automatically at the cart. Try pairing it with a category condition for a seasonal collection, or schedule it as a weekend-only offer to create urgency.

Frequently asked questions

Is BOGO free, or does it need Pro?

Percentage-based BOGO (for example the second item at 50% off) is in the free plugin. A fully free extra item (100% off) uses the Pro BOGO Free action.

Can the free item be a different product?

The BOGO action discounts an additional qualifying unit. To give away a specific different product, use the Pro Free Gift(s) action instead.

Does the customer add the second item themselves?

Yes, BOGO discounts the extra qualifying item once it is in the cart. Make the offer clear on the product page so shoppers know to add the second unit.
