How to play

You are the checkout. You never move. Your rules do the work.

The rules

01

Shoppers come to you

They enter at the walls and head straight for the checkout. Anyone who gets there leaves without buying and stands in the aisle for the rest of the shift.
02

First match, then stop

Your rules read top to bottom and stop at the first one that fits. That rule takes the sale. The rest of the stack never sees the shopper.
03

A pick every 25 seconds

New rule to the top or the bottom, or level up one you already have. The clock stops while you choose, so there is no rush and no penalty for rearranging.

Three ways a shift dies

Nothing matches the shopper

If no rule names the tag a shopper is wearing, nothing fires and they keep walking at you. The rack lists which tags you have left uncovered, so this is always fixable.

A broad rule sits too high

A rule that matches everyone ends the search before your specific rules get a turn. They sit there doing nothing, each shopper takes longer, and the aisles fill up behind them.

Upgrading before covering

Levelling a rule makes it stronger, but only for the shoppers it already matches. Upgrade early and the tags you were missing are still missed, now with a better rule beside them.

Why this game exists

One rule in the wrong place turns off all the others.

Say a store has four discounts set up: 25% for wholesale accounts, 10% off a first order, free shipping over ten items, a gift box over £300. On Thursday someone adds 10% off everything for the weekend, and it goes in at the top of the list.

Only the first rule that matches runs. So everyone gets the 10% and nothing else. Wholesale lose their contract price, nobody gets free shipping, no gift boxes go out. Nothing breaks and no warning appears. The only sign is four rules that never fired all weekend.

In the game, that one mistake costs you seventeen times your takings.

What Discount Master does about it

The rack in the game is the rule table in the plugin.

In the game Top rule wins

Ordered, stop on match

Rules are evaluated top down and the first match is the only one that touches the cart. Drag to reorder and the priority is the list itself, not a number you guess at.
In the game Shopper tags

Real conditions, real actions

Role, first purchase, quantity, cart total, payment method. Stack several on one rule, then pick what it does: percentage, fixed amount, free shipping, free gift, buy-one-get-one.
In the game Greyed-out rules

Unreachable rule warnings

Levelling a rule makes it stronger, but only for the shoppers it already matches. Upgrade early and the tags you were missing are still missed, now with a better rule beside them.
